CNA has released its list of the year's top 10 news stories in Taiwan.

The Central News Agency says stories ranking on the list are taken from news events in 2022, up until 27 November.

And according to the agency, the biggest story of the year was US Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi's official trip to Taiwan in her capacity as House Speaker, on 2 August.

She was the highest-level US official to travel Taiwan since her predecessor Newt Gingrich visited in 1997.

Second on the list is the 9-in-1 elections on November 26th, which saw KMT candidates sweep 13 cities and counties across the island, including Taipei City, New Taipei, and Taichung, and led to President Tsai Ing-wen stepping down from her role as party leader.

And third on ranking is a series of earthquakes that struck eastern Taiwan on 17-18 September, the largest of which measured an intensity of 6, and damaged infrastructure through parts of Hualien and Taitung.
