The National Health Insurance Administration says the National Health Insurance rate will remain unchanged next year.

According to administration Director-General Lee Bo-zhang, the decision to maintain the 5.17% rate comes after the government secured additional funding.

Lee says the government now plans to earmark some NT$24billion for the state-run health insurance system in 2023, and that, along with adjustment to the basic wage will increase National Health Insurance revenue by NT$5.6 billion.

However, Lee says co-payments for some medical services will be adjusted upwards in order to reduce unnecessary medical expenses and allow patients who need new medication to be covered by the health insurance programme. Health Minister Hsueh Rui-yuan warned last month that co-payments will rise.
