The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) reported 31,500 domestic cases of new coronavirus infections on Sunday, marking the fourth consecutive day with fewer than 40,000 cases.

New Taipei is reporting the highest number of confirmed cases, followed byTaichung and Kaohsiung. The number of new cases on Sunday shows a decline of nearly 11% from last week.

Health officials say that although cases are declining, "it is still difficult to predict," whether CECC experts will agree later this week to cut the isolation period for people who test positive for COVID from seven days to five.

Of the 76 fatalities reported yesterday, 68 had a history of chronic disease, and 55 were unvaccinated. They ranged in age from their 20s to their 90s.
