1,400 electric buses to be licenced by year end
The Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) says this year’s goal ofdeploying more electric buses will be met by the end of the year.
MOTC Deputy Minister Chen Yanbo told lawmakers, subsidizing the electrification of buses will be given priority in order to accelerate the development of the electric vehicle industry, while fuel buses will no longer be subsidized from next year.
Chen says they're on track to reach the target of a proportion of 13% of electric buses in the six municipalities, or around 1,400 electric buses, by the end of this year.
As of 1 September, 1,900 buses have been approved, with 1,059 electric buses being licensed and on the road, accounting for 9% of the total.
Chen notes the ministry will expedite the licensing of the remaining buses to stay on schedule to reach 35% by 2025.
