A study by the Institute of Transportation shows Taoyuan International Airport is falling behind its regional competitors as a major transfer hub in the Asia-Pacific region.

The study was based on data from 2019. It shows that the airport was trailing as a regional transit hub behind Hong Kong International, Narita in Japan, Shanghai Pudong International, and Incheon International in South Korea.

According to the study, Taoyuan International needs to take steps to attract more foreign and budget airlines, increase efforts to boost capacity, increase flights, and create new routes in the hope of attracting more transit passengers,

The study is also advising that the airport provide travellers with more choices in order to increase its transfer passenger numbers via codeshare flights.
