Teachers undergo English training course
Teachers from 330 schools across the island have received 5 days of all-English training in preparation for bilingual education.
The Ministry of Education says it is part of the "2030 Bilingual Nation" policy with the goal of having one third of Taiwan's elementary and junior-high schools offer bilingual curriculum in some subjects in 2030.
The MOE says the summertime English training programmes is a joint effort between the ministry and the US Foundation for Scholarly Exchange as well as the British Council.
The programme is a rigorous one, with teachers having to present a 20-minute video of their teaching within one month afterwards.
The ministry says in addition to preparing experienced teachers for bilingual education, several universities are also cultivating students for the job.
