MND vows vigilance as military drills conclude
The Ministry of National Defense (MND) says it remains on high alert even as China says its military drills in waters near Taiwan have ended.
Defence officials say as of early Wednesday evening, Chinese aircraft made 36 sorties and 10 Naval vessels were detected close to the Taiwan Strait median line.
Seventeen of those aircraft breached the Taiwan Strait median line in what Beijing is describing as "joint air and sea operations." Beijing has said such exercises around Taiwan will become routine.
The MND says it will remain vigilant and flexibly deploy troops based on the level of threat posed by China's military and the tactics it employs.
Defence officials also say that China's provocative military drills around Taiwan gave it an opportunity to "train and be combat-ready at all times."
