The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) on Wednesday reported just under 88,300new Covid-19 cases, of which just 46 were imported infections.

New Taipei reported the highest number of cases at 14,894. That was followed by Taichung with 11,511 cases, and Kaohsiung with 11,499 cases. 122 new coronavirus-related deaths were also being reported and those patients ranged in age from one month to over 90. Of these patients, 115 had chronic illnesses or other severe diseases and 55 had not been vaccinated.

The CECC says 104 previously reported cases had since developed into severe infections, while 136 other patients had developed moderate symptoms. The patients with a severe infection include a 9-year-old boy with encephalitis symptoms. He is currently in hospital, but in a stable condition.

Of the just over two million domestic cases reported here in Taiwan this year, 1,810 have been classified as severe infections and 3,905 as moderate while the remainderwere either asymptomatic or had mild infections.
