The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is expressing its "deep regret and dissatisfaction" that Taiwan did not receive an invitation to the 75th World Health Assembly.

Ministry spokeswoman Joanne Ou says the government "finds it deeply regrettable that the World Health Organization has once again failed to remain professional and politically neutral to extend an invitation to Taiwan."Ou accused the global health body of "disregarding" the widespread international support for Taiwan's participation in the WHA as an observer," "which is necessary and urgent, given the ongoing coronavirus pandemic."

The WHA is set to begin in Geneva this Sunday and will be the first in-person event since the start of the pandemic. The foreign ministry had said earlier this week that 13 of Taiwan's diplomatic allies had sent a proposal to the WHO Secretariat to include a discussion on the nation's possible inclusion in this year's WHA as a supplementary item.Related discussions related to the proposal are expected to take place on day one and two of the WHA session.
