The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says foreign relatives of Taiwanese citizens and some residency holders can now apply for a visa to enter Taiwan.

However, the relaxation of border restrictions does not apply to migrant workers.

According to the ministry, the move comes as the government is planning to gradually remove border restrictions.

Those who intend to apply for a visa to visit their relatives in Taiwan need to get an application form from the website of the Bureau of Consular Affairs.

Proof must be provided of the applicant's relationship to the people they plan to visit as part of the visa application.

The visa application should then be submitted to Taiwan's embassies or representative offices overseas for processing.
