The Ministry of Education (MOE) says it will be increasing subsidies for English-language classes islandwide.

The ministry says the move is part of the government's Bilingual 2030 initiative.

The K-12 Education Administration says subsidies for high school bilingual classes will be expanded to 55 schools this year. That's up from 50 schools last year.

Those subsidies are geared towards covering the costs of recruiting more English-language teachers from overseas, classroom equipment, and to improve on campus English-language environments.

Subsidies are also being increased for universities, which will be used to improve the quality of professional training for English-language teachers.
