CECC finalising digital Covid certificate
Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) spokesperson Zhuang Ren-xiang says the government is in the process of preparing its digital coronavirus certificate and more details about the system will be released next week.
The statement comes after the European Commission announced that digital certificates issued by Taiwan would be accepted as equivalent to the EU's Digital Covid Certificate from this week, even though Taiwan has not yet made its certificates available.
According to Zhuang, people here in Taiwan who have received the domestic Medigen vaccine will be eligible to obtain the certificate, even though Medigen is not authorised for use in the European Union.
However, the CECC spokesperson is warning that this doesn't mean travellers would be granted quarantine or coronavirus test waivers, based on their vaccination status, when entering EU member states.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said that all legal residents in Taiwan will be eligible to receive the digital certificate when it is released.
