Health minister dismisses tighter restrictions for air crews
Health minister Chen Shih-chung says the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) is currently not considering strengthening quarantine requirements for fully vaccinated flight crew members when they return to Taiwan from long-haul assignments.
The statement comes amid concern about another possible domestic coronavirus outbreak after a China Airlines co-pilot tested positive earlier this week for the coronavirus delta variant.
According to Chen, health authorities believe that the current “5 9” quarantine system for long haul flight crews is sufficient, but the issue will be reviewed during discussion with the Civil Aeronautics Administration.
The 5 9 quarantine system means air crew members get tested once after five days of quarantine then again on the 9th and 14th days after returning to Taiwan - when they are adhering to self-health management regulations.
