The decennial national population and household census will begin in November, with 16,000 census workers set to visit more than 1.2 million households around Taiwan.
The data collected on population distribution, childcare services, education, employment, language use, household structure, and housing conditions, will aid policy-making by central and local governments, and provide them with a more accurate understanding of the population in Taiwan.
The Directorate General of Budget, Accounting, and Statistics (DGBAS) notes that about 30% of people in Taiwan do not reside at their registered domicile, and that this is something the government wants to track.
The DGBAS adds that census information is confidential, and stresses that census takers will not disclose any personal information.
