The Bureau of Labor Funds says a surge in global financial markets in March boosted the gains of labour funds it manages.

According to the bureau, the funds' accumulated gains totalled NT$494.96 billion in the first three months of this year and that's an increase of NT$242.21 billion from the end of February.

The accumulated gains reflect increases or decreases in the value of assets in the funds' portfolios and income on investments. The bureau says 57.63% of the investments were made overseas and the remaining 42.37% was invested domestically.

The combined value of the funds managed by the bureau, including the Labor Pension Fund, the Labor Retirement Fund, the Labor Insurance Fund, the Employment Insurance Fund, and the Arrear Wage Payment Fund, totalled NT$6.42 trillion as of the end of March. And the bureau says based on that value, the gains represented a rate of return of 8.3% in the first three months of this year.
