Indian migrant worker numbers to be limited
Ministry of Labor Minister Hsu Ming-chun says the introduction of Indian migrant workers to Taiwan will initially be undertaken on a "small scale" and on a trial basis.
Hsu says her office is currently waiting for the Cabinet to approve a memorandum of understanding signed by Taiwan and India last month regarding making India a source of migrant workers. Hsu says once the cabinet has approved the agreement it will then be sent to the Legislative Yuan for further review and confirmation.
Hsu told a hearing of the Legislative Social Welfare and Environmental Hygiene Committee, that once both of those processes have been completed, her office will begin holding working-level discussions with India on a wide range of issues.
The MOL minister went on to say that those issues include quotas of Indian workers, language ability, source regions and candidates' occupational background.
