Hotel industry sees strong growth in 2023
The Tourism Administration says local hotels reported strong growth in visitor volumes during the first nine months of 2023. The Administration said room occupancy levels were close to pre-pandemic levels.
Data shows the hotel sector saw roughly 50.3 million visitors between January and September. That's an increase of roughly 23.25% year-on-year and a decline of just 6.65% from the same period of 2019.
The Tourism Administration says much of that spike was fuelled by domestic travellers. Domestic hotel visitor volume from January to September this year was 2.27 million higher than the same period of last year, or an increase of nearly seven million from 2019.
But data also shows that the average room price per night for tourist hotels this year rose by 12.15% from last year. That rise is being attributed to moves by the hotel sector to offer more diverse and high-end services, and as a result of higher operating costs.
