The two opposition parties KMT and TPP have named their vice presidential candidates, marking the breakdown of months-long efforts for a blue and white-camp alliance.

The KMT chose Broadcasting Corporation of China chair and veteran politician Zhao Shao-kang (趙少康) as Hou Yo-yi's running mate, touting his capabilities and fame.

Zhao said at the press conference that he took on this difficult task in a crisis, but it's okay as he's always faced difficulties in his life.

Meanwhile TPP chair Ko Wen-zhe officially registered his candidacy for the 2024 presidential election today, hours after naming TPP Legislator Wu Hsin-ying (吳欣盈) as his running mate. Wu, the daughter of former Shin Kong (新光) Financial Holding Co. Chairman Eugene Wu, was appointed legislator-at-large a year ago. She has a strong background of finance and had once served as Shin Kong Life Insurance's vice manager.

Ko says for the country to get back on the right track, he's invited Wu to join him, so they can give it their all for the election.

Meanwhile, Terry Gou has officially withdrawn from the 2024 presidential election. Gou emphasized his unwavering commitment to Taiwan's future, stating that while he steps back from the election, his dedication to the nation's progress remains strong.
