Taiwan's exports fell more than 7% from a year earlier in August, marking the 12th consecutive monthly year-on-year decline, although the fall further narrowed in the wake of a traditional peak season in the second half of this year, the Ministry of Finance (MOF) said Friday.

Data compiled by the MOF showed the country's exports fell 7.3% from a year earlier to US$37.36 billion in August after a 23.4% decline in June and a 10.4% drop in July.

Meanwhile, Taiwan's imports fell 22.9% from a year earlier to US$28.77 billion in August, resulting in a trade surplus of US$8.59 billion, up 186.8% from a year earlier.
