Government opens AI centre
Taiwan’s National Science and Technology Council Minister Wu Zheng-zhong has officially opened the Taiwan AI Center of Excellence.
During the opening ceremony, Wu said he hoped the center will help streamline efforts by government agencies seeking to formulate rules governing artificial intelligence applications and facilitate collaborations on international projects.
Wu says his office is currently formulating ethical and general principles in an intergovernmental effort to codify terms governing the use of AI in order to bring Taiwan in line with global AI initiatives.
The centre in Taipei is being run by the National Science and Technology Council.
It's being headed by Tsai Zhi-hong, who told reporters at the launch ceremony that the centre will seek to initiate international collaborations on strengthening core AI technologies and create an AI talent pool in the Asia-Pacific region.
