Travel business picking up

Travel agencies and hotels taking part in the Taipei International Travel Fair, which ended yesterday, have enjoyed brisk business. Lion Travel, a leading travel operator, says its sales revenue exceeded NT$100 million every day during the four-day trade show. But compared with the ITF in the pre-pandemic era, the revenue was only 40% of what it used to be due to limited supply of international flights.
Lion Travel says even though Taiwan has lifted border controls, many people still prefer to travel domestically, and their favourite destinations are Hualian and Taitung.
Those choosing to go abroad mostly favour Europe, Japan and South Korea with departing dates from December to January when the Lunar New Year holiday comes around.
Lion says its top-of-the-line product, a 30-day package tour to the South Pole with a price tag of NT$1.26 million per person, is also selling well.
The Silks Hotel Group has seen sales performance reach NT$130 million from the ITF so far, while Hotel Royal's revenue is over NT$210 million.
Hotel Royal says their hottest product is an accommodation voucher that can be used at any of its 10 properties islandwide.
